Home Sweet Hotel Sinu

We are just sitting around Hotel Sinu, the premiere resort destination in Monteria, spending quality time with Samuel and writing this update today.  If you ever happen to be in Monteria, then I recommend the Hotel Sinu. The hotel staff are very friendly and the room is spacious – plenty of space for an energetic little boy named Samuel to play! In general it is a decent place to stay, but there are a few things that you need to know if you decide to stay here:
1)      The internet service rarely works. Which as you all know, this is very near and dear to me. When an Internet window of availability occurs we typically try to make the most of it with Skype calls home and Blog updates and for me, work emails.
2)      As Mary Ann previously mentioned you need to be wary of egg shells in the scrambled eggs.
3)      Using the hotel laundry service is pretty expensive and there are no laundry services nearby so you just get a plastic tub for the local department store (Exito), fill it up with water and soap and do the human washing machine on dirty cloths. Then sprawl them all other the bathroom to dry.
4)      There is no microwave to warm up leftovers, but there is something that works just as well  - the hotel balcony (which I also refer to as the “Colombian Microwave”). Stand out there for 5 minutes and you’ll know what I mean.
5)      Today was a “bad” hot water day. Meaning there was none (at least until later in the afternoon). If you need a hot shower in the morning to wake up this may not be the place for you.
Enough about the hotel. I just thought I would mention it because we spend so much time at it in our room since there is only so much to do with Samuel outside of the hotel in Monteria.
Anyway, it has been another great day with Samuel. He slept through the entire night and did not wake up until about 8:00 in the morning as Mary Ann and I woke him for breakfast. After breakfast we walked down to the nearby park. When I say “we” I actually mean Mary Ann and I since Samuel prefers the lazy-man’s approach to walking – having daddy carry him. Let me tell you, this little boy is not light. He is all of 30 – 35 lbs, which starts to get heavy after walking about a mile or so. Dalton better watch out because he may be bigger than Dalton in a couple years.  After the walk we picked up some things at the local grocery store. I feel like a complete fool every time I check out because the clerk always says something to me and I have no idea what they are saying, but we manage to get by. After hanging out at the Hotel playing with Play Doh, cars, coloring, watching a Sesame Street video, and Samuels favorite – playing in our new washing machine (a big blue plastic tub – which perfectly matches our blue toilet and blue sink).
As you can imagine hanging out in the room gets old after a while so decided to get out and go to the mall! Wohoo!! We hailed the taxi outside of our hotel and were at the mall within 10 minutes. Guess what the car ride did to Samuel? You got it – he was out cold after 2 minutes in the cab. The only thing tougher than carrying around a 35 pound little boy is carrying around a 35 pound, sleeping, little boy. The trip to the mall was uneventful. We did our daily trip to the ATM to get Colombian Pesos. The AT M at the mall rocks because the bank has a higher withdrawal limit and allows us to save a few bucks in transaction fees. We walked around the mall for a bit and tried to find a place to eat, but we did not find anything so we hailed a cab back to Hotel Sinu.
Now we are back in the hotel room, Samuel is sound asleep and we are just trying to relax and prepare ourselves for Samuel to wake up later this evening. We’ll see how it goes. We are praying for another smooth night. We miss you all.
God Bless,
-Jeff and Mary Ann
